FEUER UND FLAMME

In the club, heaps of glamour seeped in the sound of a singing saw. On stage, breasts dance with the theremins surrounded by roaring piles, purring mustaches and much much more. Two evenings of shows and party in an exhibition by Lucile Desamory and Antonia Baehr at Galerie ZeitZone.

Feuer und Flamme (Fire and Flame) was a cabaret hosted by Werner Hisrch (aka Antonia Baehr) and Lucile Desamory during the pandemic in October and November 2021. It took place at night in a gallery in Berlin Kreuzberg that is deeply embedded in the neighbourhood’s history and life: Galerie ZeitZone, and left the audience drowning in glamour. During the day the gallery was open to showcase an exhibition with works on paper and an installation by the artists.
Desamory and Baehr worked with guests collaborating on different ‘numbers’, showcasing local misfit talent and non-comformists from a wide range of genres. The numbers included a musical saw, three theremins played with six tits led by Teta Lírica, Wolfgang Müller and Ahmad Hamad’s Birdology and Valeska Gert’s roaring. The cabaret demonstrated that words are nothing but words, words, words, just words; words that can be lies.
In the summer of 2022, the cabaret travelled to Ljublana in Slovenia, where it hosted local guests: the virtuosic multi-instrumentalist Boštjan Gombač (bird calls and musical saw) and the fine dancer and performer Kristina Aleksova.

“[…] The small stage, framed by purple lametta and glowing orange and uranium yellow cardboard scenery, is the setting for a round dance of little glowing moments of joy, “strange and floating, with no straight lines,” as Lucille Desamory mentions as we enter. Together with Werner Hirsch (aka Antonia Baehr), Desamory is co-hosting the evening. The alternating scenes are warm and amusing and despite their lightness, offer now and then a glimpse into the abyss.
We listen to the throaty cries and gurgling sounds of the giant auk, a seabird that became extinct in the 19th century – interpreted by the Icelandic actress Kristbjörg Kjeld, recorded on vinyl and played on stage by the elf researcher, musician and artist Wolfgang Müller and his companion Ahmad Hanad. The last breeding pair of these flightless and therefore defenceless birds, highly sought after by collectors and researchers, was killed in Iceland in 1844. Further extinct species appear as ghostly voice imitations in Werner Hirsch and Lucille Desamory’s marvellous breast puppet theremin duo. Other numbers include a musical saw, a German pop Schlager duet with a pile of talking fabric as well as a theremin striptease, played by Teta Lírica, Florina Speth aka Schloß Mirabell, Carola Caggiano and Dj Elke Echo.” – Bettina Knaup.
