Description:
A sociotope of current music production, a place full of nostalgia and memories of megalomaniac youthful dreams, a playground for shy late beginners and nerdy professional musicians: Waiting shop assistants, customers looking around, trying out instruments, passing the time. Melodies of well-known songs, original compositions, individual fragments combine or just exist side by side… Images from the everyday life of a music shop, yesterday as well as today.
In the installative music theatre „Das Musikgeschäft“, composer* Neo Hülcker and dramaturge Bastian Zimmermann bring such a shop with all its instruments, rooms, counters and repair corners onto the stage and perform this place in its socio-musical ordinariness – with 13 very different musicians and performers, including the Berlin choreographer, the choreographer and the musician. The Berlin choreographer and performer Henry Wilde aka Antonia Baehr, the actors Heinrich Horwitz and Armin Wieser, the clarinettist Carola Schaal and a musical child prodigy. The audience is invited to observe, witness and perhaps even enter the hustle and bustle of the „music business“ throughout the evening.
The idea for this musical performance is based on the concept of the same name by the drummer and composer Sven-Åke Johansson, which he developed in the 1980s but never realised and left to the production as a source of ideas and inspiration.
Composer* and performer* Neo Hülcker works with a focus on the anthropological investigation of music in everyday living environments. Hülcker realises his* compositions in the form of situations, performance installations, videos, actions and interventions. In collaboration with numerous artists* these works have been shown at festivals such as the Wittener Tage für neue Kammermusik and Wien Modern. His* works include „Music for Dead Animals“ (2017), „tentaculus ohri“ (2018) and „Ear Action“ (2017) with Stellan Veloce.

Ein Soziotop aktueller Musikproduktion, ein Ort voller Nostalgie und Erinnerungen an größenwahnsinnige Jugendträume, Tummelplatz schüchterner Spät-Anfänger*innen und nerdiger Profimusiker*innen: Wartende Ladenverkäufer*innen, Kund*innen, die sich umschauen, Instrumente ausprobieren, ihre Zeit vertreiben. Melodien bekannter Songs, Eigenkompositionen, einzelne Fragmente verbinden sich oder existieren doch nur nebeneinander… Bilder aus dem Alltag eines Musikgeschäfts, gestern wie heute.
Der Komponist* Neo Hülcker und Dramaturg Bastian Zimmermann bringen in dem installativen Musiktheater Das Musikgeschäft ein solches Geschäft mit all seinen Instrumenten, Räumen, der Ladentheke und Reparaturecke auf die Bühne und bespielen diesen Ort in seiner sozialmusikalischen Alltäglichkeit – mit 13 sehr unterschiedlichen Musiker- und Performer*innen wie u.a. der Berliner Choreografin und Performerin Henry Wilde aka Antonia Baehr, den Schauspieler*innen Heinrich Horwitz und Armin Wieser, der Klarinettistin Carola Schaal und einem musikalischen Wunderkind. Das Publikum ist eingeladen, über den Abend hinweg das Treiben im „Musikgeschäft“ zu beobachten, ihm beizuwohnen und vielleicht sogar einzutreten.
Die Idee zu dieser Musikperformance knüpft an das gleichnamige Konzept des Schlagzeugers und Komponisten Sven-Åke Johansson an, das dieser in den 80er Jahren entwickelte, jedoch nie realisierte und der Produktion als Ideengeber und Inspiration überlassen hat.
